Thread Vein Removal

What are thread veins?
Thread veins or “spider veins” are very small veins in the skin itself. They look like thin bluish red lines in the skin. (varicose veins are bluish lumpy veins underneath the skin but the skin itself is normal). Thread veins do not cause any symptoms but because they are so visible, people often dislike their appearance and feel unattractive because of them. They can be associated with varicose veins but can occur even when there are no varicose veins.

There are 3 traditional methods of treatment: Electrodessication, Sclerotherapy and Dermabrasion. Results from these methods have proven to be uncomfortable and rarely produce complete clearance of blood vessels. There are also potential side effects such as bruising, hyper pigmentation or scarring. Laser technology used by the Hillview Laser Centre has almost no risk of the above side effects.

How it Works?
The laser light penetrates the outer skin and coagulates the blood in the targeted blood vessel. This causes the vein to blanche and then disappear through re-absorption into the surrounding cells. The light impacts the vein without damage to the surrounding skin tissue and is therefore an extremely simple and safe procedure. Results are generally immediate although it may take a few days for re-absorption to occur.

How Many Treatments Are Required?
One, two or three treatments are sufficient to achieve full clearance. After effects, if any, are short-term and may include redness or crusting on the skin which may remain for a few days.
